Sadly, we can’t promise these awesome track days will see you following in the footsteps of Steve Owen, Shane Van Gisbergen, David Reynolds etc to compete in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship. But if you’ve done one (or more) of these you’ll have noticed the dedicated team of professional drivers that bring these experiences to life. Wouldn’t it be great to be paid to give people this kind of experience? Well, read on, there’s a way this dream could become reality…

Audition to become a V8 hot lap driver  

We’ve partnered with Fastrack V8 Race Experience to search for a hot lap driver to join their highly professional team. This job includes a salary of $500 dollars per day for a minimum of 70 days for one year.

This will be a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience for all budding V8 drivers. Everyone taking part will receive two sessions of 10 laps each. You’ll receive expert guidance before getting behind the wheel and again following the first 10 lap-session, which will be used as a practice run to help you get used to the car.

So, to be clear, you’ll drive 20 laps on a real racetrack regardless of the time you record or your level of performance... what could be more fun than that? You’ll never know if you could have made it if you don’t enter.

How is the winner found?

During your second session of 10 laps your coach will score you out of a maximum of 100 on factors like your ability to make decisions around safety, braking, hitting apexes, gear changes and throttle control. To make sure you’re scored fairly, your drive will be watched back on video by a team of professional race drivers, who will also award a score out of 100.

The top ten overall points scorers will proceed to the final round at the famous Sandown Raceway in Melbourne. All costs for travel, accommodation and food for the chosen 10 will be covered by their initial audition fee. They’ll each drive three laps at Sandown, with the times of these laps combined then averaged to find an overall winner.

The person who gets the job will also receive plenty of perks, including paid for airfares, car rental, accommodation and meals. They’ll need to gain a CAMS license and will take part in extended training period with Fastrack V8 Race Experience (paid for by the company) before starting work.
