Boggo Road Gaol (officially known as the Brisbane Prison) was one of Australia’s most notorious and dangerous prisons, with a history spanning over 100 years. On this 90-minute fun history tour your guide will share stories of the site’s past, from its beginnings in 1883 through to the 1980s.
You’ll enter Number 2 Division, which from the 1920s through to 1989 housed those serving the longest sentences, including violent offenders and murderers.
See the graffiti left behind by former inmates, and learn about the riots that took place in F wing cell block. You’ll also learn about the duties of the guards, the day-to-day lives of the prisoners and a variety of interesting stories.
Comfortable walking shoes must be worn. Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen is recommended, especially in summer. Bring umbrellas/raincoats in wet weather. Dress suitably for the weather.
Maximum of 40 people per public tour.
Tour runs in all weather, and will only be cancelled if conditions are dangerous
A plastic bottle of water/soft drink is recommended for participants (required if suffering of low blood sugar levels i.e. diabetic)
