Skyrail Rainforest Cableway - Cairns, Australia
We bought our tickets using their website while still in the US. The process was easy and their customer service was excellent. Our cruise ship arrived at Yorkey’s Knob and there was a transfer bus to take us to the Skyrail terminal. The Skyrail Cableway ride was astounding as it went over the rain forest. The app provides a commentary on the entire trip. About half of the way along the trip, there is a station where you have to switch to a second gondola. This station also give you an opportunity to walk and see the beautiful Barron Falls. The last stop is Kuranda. It is a small town that is worth walking through to see the trees and shopping areas. Available for a small extra fee are the glass bottomed gondolas. We did this and it was worth the money. Being able to look down on the rainforest is special. Also, the glass floor gondola riders are placed in their ride from a separate, much shorter, line.
Great experience with Skyrail
Really well organised. We paid a little extra for a prompt pick up from our hotel to transfer to the Smithfield terminal and a return coach back at 4pm. As we drove, we got a little tour guide of Cairns. The cable car ride stops at two areas - both give you the chance to see the rain forest close up and also the Barron River falls which are breathtaking. Kuranda is an interesting village with a variety of restaurants and shops- also we enjoyed the Koala Country attraction. We allowed 6 hours all in and needed all that time - worth perhaps allowing a full day.
What you can expect

The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, takes you high above the canopy for massive views that stretch all the way to the Coral Sea. Once you reach Kuranda, you’ll have time to dive into the village vibe, wander the markets and grab a bite before the next round of action.
The return trip cranks things up a notch aboard the Kuranda Scenic Railway, a legendary rail journey that punches straight through the heart of the rainforest. You’ll go through 15 tunnels, pass crashing waterfalls and roll across the Stoney Creek trestle bridge as the scenery changes fast around you. With pre‑allocated tickets and return transfers to and from Cairns, the whole day runs smoothly, letting you focus on what matters, big views, real moments and an adventure worth talking about long after you get back to base.

Beautiful trip over rainforest. Visit Kuranda
Excellent trip over rainforest. Got a real appreciation of the environment. Sadly the return train wasn’t working following cyclone damage. Spent a few hours in Kuranda. The Skyrail had excellent staff and excellent facilities. Good value.
