What you can expect
Discover everything that the Great Southern Lakes of Fraser Island have to offer on this three day self-guided hiking expedition. For three days and two nights, you'll explore six perched freshwater lakes, including Lake Boomanjin, Lake Birrabeen and Lake McKenzie. Enjoy countless swimming spots and camp under the stars. Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world and an incredible destination for your hiking adventure. You'll cover about 20km in total over the three days, and be set up with all the maps, itinerary, and instructions you need for your self-guided exploration. Tackle the diverse landscapes along the Great Southern Lakes section of the Fraser Island Great Walk, visiting six perched freshwater lakes: Lake Boomanjin, Lake Benaroon, Lake Birrabeen, Basin Lake and Lake McKenzie. Set up camp each evening after a big day of walking and refreshing swim breaks, and enjoy your nights under the stars.

Seasons
- The climate of Fraser Island is subtropical, with warm daytime temperatures throughout the entire year. The winter months are from May to August, where the average tempera- tures are 14-25 C (57-77 degrees F). Winter is the drier month of the year and it is less likely that you will see much rainfall during walking season. If it does rain it’s generally short showers.
