My brother and his group of friends have been visiting Melbourne since last Saturday.
We explored many places together, from mountains to beaches, but this was one of the most impressive experiences because I’ve wanted to try it for a long time. It’s called Go Boat Melbourne, a picnic cruise on a small electric boat that you drive yourself—quiet and slow, perfect for enjoying the city skyline and riverside views. We chose the 11 a.m. slot so we could bring brunch on board. The cruise lasts two hours along the Yarra River and costs a flat rate of 150 AUD. Each boat fits up to 8 people, and you can go with as many as you like. Unfortunately, my son couldn’t join this time because he was studying, but I’m sure he’ll be a great captain next time since the rental team gives a thorough safety briefing with maps and bridge navigation tips. As the “chef” of the group, I planned a simple but tasty picnic menu that’s easy to eat in cool weather and looks colorful in photos. We brought deboned roast chicken, garlic chili shrimp, penne with mala sauce, fried sausages, a cold cut platter, boiled vegetables, and celery salad. Overall, this was a really fun and worthwhile activity. If you have time while in Melbourne, I highly recommend it. And don’t forget to invite me along!

We rented a small boat that floats gently along the Yarra River. The view was stunning—skyscrapers on one side, peaceful nature on the other. It’s super chill and relaxing, especially if you go around sunset when the weather cools down and the city lights slowly come on. The boat is very easy to control—goes slow and smooth, and best of all, no boat license needed. Perfect for couples, families, or friends looking to do something different and enjoy Melbourne from a unique perspective. Highly recommend doing this in the evening for the golden light and cooler breeze.
What you can expect
Ever wanted to be the captain of your own ship? This is your time to shine during a three-hour hire time of an electric boat with enough space for eight people including your own snacks and drinks. No license is required and the controls are simple to learn. You will be taught how to navigate through the waterways and change speed. In no time you will be a confident skipper and it's in your hands where exactly you want to go. Let the area map give you some ideas for landmarks to visit, such as the MCG and Eureka Tower. Even children and dogs are allowed on board so the whole crew can be part of this beautiful day.
The boat is well equipped with everything you need and a picnic table. It doesn't produce any loud noises or fumes, creating the right foundation for exploration and serene moments. Your start and end point will be Banana Alley in the heart of Melbourne's CBD, easy and convenient to reach.

- The nominated skipper must be at least 18 years of age
- Maximum legal capacity per boat is eight participants including children
- Photo ID must be provided, preferably of the individual who made the booking
- The skipper must maintain a 0.00 BAC
- Guests may consume up to two alcoholic beverages per person
- A security bond of $200 is required and will be taken as a pre-authorisation from a valid debit card and will be cancelled once the boat is returned without damage
- If you choose to use a credit card, the pre-authorisation amount will be $1
- It is not permitted to dock the boat at another location, it must remain on the water for the duration of their booking
- Fishing is not permitted
- A $20 surcharge applies on Weekends and Public Holidays

Can get a bit hot on the 30+ days so bring an umbrella for shade. Music and an esky are a must - so much fun and no better way to see the city from a whole new perspective. ♥️
