What you can expect
Just 45 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD you can fully immerse yourself in the excitement of whitewater kayaking down the Yarra River. You’ll be powering through thrilling grade two rapids in a two-man inflatable kayak perfect for you and a mate or partner. If you’re looking for a fun outdoor activity that will get your heart racing, you’re in the right place.
Before you hit the rapids, the experienced adventure team will set you up with all the latest gear and show you how to paddle and steer the kayak on the water. Then it’s time for two adrenaline-pumping hours splashing your way through the raging rapids and waves.
The inflatable kayaks are the ideal vessel as they’re very stable, so even if you’ve never been on whitewater rapids before you’ll be able to handle it. But you will get wet! You’ll also be surrounded by picturesque gorges and valleys of lush native bushland, so get excited for an adventure with a view.
Whitewater kayaking on the Yarra River is the perfect day trip from Melbourne all year round. In fact, the rapids are even more intense in winter as the water levels are higher, so book in for an unforgettable adventure.

Time
- Please allow 2.5 hours for the duration of this experience, this includes some logistics and a briefing at the start
- Available seven days a week as long as minimum numbers are attained
Departure Location
- The meeting point for this tour is the car park the end of Lower Homestead Road next to the river, Wonga Park, 3115. Please drive all the way to the end of Lower Homestead Road. If using google maps, please type in Lower homestead road carpark
What To Bring
- Closed toe footwear essential
- Clothes you don’t mind getting wet
- Wear a few layers of clothing in cooler months - avoid cotton and opt for thermals or something similar
- Towel and a full change of clothing including footwear for after kayaking
- Water bottle
- Waterproof camera if you would like to take pictures
- Sunscreen
Terms And Conditions
- No kayaking experience required
- Minimum age is 8 years old
- Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult
- Maximum weight is 120kg
- Participants must be able to swim at least 10 metres
- You will be required to carry the kayak a short distance from the vehicle to the river
- Please allow three hours for this adventure
- The rapids are bigger and faster in winter months as the river is on average one metre higher! So if you want a challenge come along in winter
- There are no changing facilities or toilets at the location
- You will meet at the car park at the very end of Lower Homestead Road, Wonga Park, Melbourne.
- Kids under 16 years only $10. One $10 child with every paying adult. Adults with more than one child will be charged at the adult rate
Cancellation Policy
- Changes to your booking up to 7 days before the start time of your experience will incur a $15 per person rebooking fee, this includes under 16's
- Changes within 7 days of your experience will incur a $30 per person rebooking fee, tnhis includes under 16's
- Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

We had a great time kayaking on the Yarra. The location was beautiful and peaceful with occasional rapids that were fun to navigate and exciting enough for us as first-timers. Highly recommended!
