My 14 year old son and I did the tour today - was awesome. Our guide Daniel was extremely knowledgeable and shared the history of Yarra River & some iconic places & buildings we passed. No kayaking skill required. A great way to spend 90 minutes. Would definitely recommend it!

Come and meet us at Boathouse Drive only a short walk from Flinders Street station in the heart of Melbourne city for a day of exploring the historic Yarra river. The team will begin your session with an essential safety briefing before sending you off to enjoy Melbourne from a whole new perspective. Whether you are visiting from overseas, interstate or are local, this experience has something for everyone. Enjoy this self guided paddle past the MCG, Royal Botanic Gardens and up to Herring Island. Bring a picnic and enjoy Herring Island’s environmental sculpture park or stop by Kanteen for a coffee before your return journey to Boathouse drive.

Inclusions

Self guided kayak tour on the Yarra River
Instruction prior to getting on the water
Safety equipment - PFD (personal flotation device)
Kayak, paddle, pump, dry bag, spray jacket (if raining)

Operating Hours

Participants should start the self-guided tour between 9 am and 11 am.
Finishing at the rowing sheds in the city before 4 pm.
The journey with a break along the way (30 min), takes approx 4 hours
There is always a little favorable current so paddling is easy

Hotel Pickup

You can drive, free on street parking is available and we will return you to here after your paddle. Public transport to Victoria Park Station followed by a 5 minute walk to our address. With this option it is possible for us to just retrieve the kayaks in the city when you're done and you can leave from there (5 minute walk to Flinders Station).

What To Bring

It is recommended to wear a hat, sunglasses, and outdoor clothing. Sandals or flip flops are the most appropriate footwear and a rain jacket or jumper for wet or cooler temperatures.

Groups of up to 8 participants can be accommodated
Friends can follow along on foot or bike along the river some of the way
The distance is 8 km. Average paddlers go about 3-4km per hour
In the event of poor weather conditions, your experience may be rescheduled

Terms And Conditions

Participants must be reasonably active and over 12 years of age
Participants must be able to swim 50m non-stop
Very tall (over 192 cm) and heavy people (over 110 kg) need to notify the operator in order to provide a suitable kayak
Children 12-15 must travel in a double kayak with an accompanying adult
In the event of poor weather conditions, your experience may be rescheduled

Cancellation Policy

Change your booking up to 24 hours before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 24 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
