White Water Kayaking

It ended up just White Water Kayaking, could have gone a bit longer. Not that fussed about missing the abseil. Guide Ali was great.

Kayaking on the Yarra was thoroughly enjoyable, and the small rapids were enough to whet my appetite to try some larger ones in the future. It was my first time abseiling and, once over the edge, the jelly legs disappeared and I found myself reaching the bottom wishing there was more to go. I have already recommended the activity to several others.

What you can expect

The Paddle & Abseil Adventure Experience on the Yarra River is an action-packed full day of kayaking on Grade 1 & 2 white water and abseiling from a 10m cliff. (As seen on TV’s “Go for Your Life” program Jan 2008) After a safety brief, it’s time to hit the river and embark on a 1.5-hour journey through some of the most scenic sections of the Yarra Valley River. On the first flat-water section of the river, you will learn how to steer the boats. This prepares you for the rapids that lie ahead. The Yarra meanders through the bushland of the Yarra Valley.

During the day there is the possibility of seeing a range of wildlife on the river banks including Kangaroo’s, wallabies, echidna or a Koala. Sometimes we have even seen wildlife in the river including platypuses, eels and there are always many water birds. Before tackling the next part of your adventure, you will dry off and have a picnic lunch. Lunch will be in a picnic area close to the river or at the abseil site. Then it's onto the cliffs which have an intimidating edge. Steady your nerves as you back off the edge of a 10m-12m abseil – approximately 2 storeys high. You can expect your day to finish at approximately 4.00 pm and then return to the station or home in your own vehicle.

Additional Information

  • Week day bookings are available for groups of four or more
  • ITINERARY - Please note that sometimes we swap the order and run the abseil first and the paddle in the afternoon - depending on weather or client bookings. Also, the abseiling component of this tour is subject to weather conditions and the paddling is not run if the river is in flood.
  • CAMERAS - There are excellent photo opportunities. We suggest purchasing a waterproof disposable camera in either a wide angle or standard lens with a flash and attach it to yourself or your pack for easy access.
  • VALUABLES - You will be out of sight of the vehicle for the majority of the day, so we strongly advise that you bring only what you can carry on the trip. Be sure to leave any non-essential valuables at home (jewellery / money / purses / wallets). Jewellery worn, in particular rings and bracelets do tend to get in the way when paddling and are better left at home. You leave valuables in the vehicle at your own risk. RECENTLY INJURED - People with previous or existing muscular/joint/ bone injuries should be aware that sitting in the boats for long periods, strenuous walking and scrambling is involved, they should wear the appropriate support bandages.
  • IMPORTANT INFORMATIONWEATHER - Please note that new "Fire Danger Ratings" are now in place for Victoria. All tours will be subject to suitable weather and fire safety conditions as advised by relevant authorities. This may mean tours are postponed at short notice as Total Fire Ban Days are not declared until late afternoon on the day prior. This is beyond the tour operator's control, and we appreciate your understanding.

Terms And Conditions

  • An average level of fitness is required, no previous white water experience is necessary but the ability to swim a minimum of 25m is recommended
  • If you are over 10 years of age, love the outdoors and feel comfortable in the water, you are in for a great time! (children under 16 need to be accompanied by a parent /guardian)
  • If you have any medical conditions or dietary requirements that may be relevant please inform the staff at Adrenalin and your guides prior to the trip
  • Paddling takes place regardless of rain but the section of river paddled can be dependant on river levels. Abseiling may need to be postponed if it is raining as the cliff is too slippery when wet. Total Fire Ban Days (in the heat of summer) can cause us to change the section of river we paddle due to limited access, but in general, the gig is on unless a guide contacts you a 1-3 days prior to your trip.

Cancellation Policy

  • Change your booking up to 7 days before the start time of your experience
  • Changes are not permitted within 7 days of your experience
  • Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
