To really explore the beauty of Cape Tribulation and feel ‘one’ with nature, horse back riding is the way to do it. There is no better way to travel through the stunningly diverse natural wonders the Daintree has to offer, and no better view than up on the back of the horse.
So, here’s how you can do it: set out from the stables with your guide, group, and very own horse, to spend the morning winding through rainforest, sandy beach, ocean waters and stunning open paddocks. There’s a lot to take in during this two hour experience, but travelling by horseback means you’ll be able to get back to nature and take in the views.
You’ll weave through the oldest rainforest in the world and breathe fresh salty air along the shoreline of Myall Beach, where you can literally get your feet wet. Horse riding is definitely a better way to explore than on foot or in a four-wheel drive, because you can ride right into the water and splash your way across the beach. How big a splash you want to make is up to you, what speed you’re comfortable with, your skill-level, and how wet you’re willing to get. But be open to getting a little salty at any speed in the water - it’s definitely worth it.
Seeing as Australia is known for its animal predators almost as much as it’s known for its natural beauty, it’s understandable you might have some questions about wading into the Daintree waters. But rest assured, you (and your horse) will be kept safe and sound. Your guide will only take you horse riding into the ocean shallows if there’s clear visibility in the water, and the shore area is actually sheltered by a protective reef. So you can breathe easy as you make your way through the crystal blue waters of Cape Tribulation.
There will be plenty of opportunities to capture some picture-perfect moments throughout the morning, so you can have a memento of the gorgeous Daintree landscapes and your time as a horseback riding pro.
