Enter Plughole by abseiling into the ‘Sinkhole’ and swirling into Elder cave to negotiate a series of climbs, crawls and tight squeezes.
The ever popular 'Plughole Adventure' tour is 2 exciting hours, including an abseil (weather permitting) and a series of climbs, squeezes and crawls. After donning overalls, harness, helmet and headlamp, you receive a safety briefing, to prepare you for your thrilling journey.
You begin with a challenging 9-metre abseil down a sinkhole into the hidden world of the Elder Cave. No abseiling experience is necessary. Our guides are all highly qualified, mentoring you all the way. If weather is not suitable for abseiling, we take you a different way, seeing more of the cave, and you will still have a great time!
The Elder Cave is perfect for first time cavers! The abseil is followed by a spacious chamber and then The Windows a tight, short squeeze. As your confidence grows, the squeezes get longer. Look carefully, and you'll see some fine crystal, but this tour is not about cave decorations. It is an adventure experience!
Move on through the Crystal Chamber and take time for a breather in The Chapel. The Armchair Squeeze leads you into the fun of the Rockpile, then the aptly named the Letterbox Squeeze. This adventure is called The Plughole for good reason. The S-Bend is the way out of the cave! Dirty, you emerge into the Imperial Cave. On the way out, remember to swagger boldly when you pass other visitors!
Later, you can proudly show friends your Certificate of Achievement and free photos of your trip, which you can download.
The Plughole Adventure Tour is a great introduction to caving. You should complete it before you attempt any of our other adventure caving tours.

The staff (Steven and Collin) were very friendly, knowledgeable and made use of that black humour that adventurers often have in order to make people feel at ease. A great experience that I can recommend to others and that is likely to make me come back to do more advanced caving tours :-)
The guides Cory and Ted were fantastic on that day. I appreciate their friendliness and great professionalism and safety. They made such a tough caving looks enjoyable. The certification in the end was fantastic. Free Photos are such a bonus.
I had the greatest day caving! process was easy and responses fast. Team on the day were great and made it a fun and personal experience.
The guides, Garry & Stuart were awesome
The guides were brilliant - they explained everything clearly and were extremely safety conscious and in a very caring way saw that we cared for each other as well.
This adventure went above and beyond all expectations. Since the Plughole is the introductory cave, I was expecting it to be very short and unadventurous (I'm a bit of a thrillseeker). Turns out it was actually quite fun when we squeezed through a few tight holes and abseiled down into the cave! I would highly recommend this adventure for anyone of any physical ability :)
A terrific introduction to caving and great value for money. The staff were helpful and made the experience very enjoyable. What an adventure!!!
I loved Caving adventure totally, but was expecting more time to spent on doing more crawling and may be get some sort swimming in water or get wet in water in caves would be great experience.
The Plughole was a great introduction to caving. Good value for money activity. I would definitely like to go back some time.
Love a challenge. This is for you. Persevere and abseil, crawl and squeeze through tight spaces. Be prepared to see your body as flexible as it can be. We thank Ted and Steven our guides for making this the best experience out..
WEATHER: Caving goes ahead rain, hail or shine as it is all underground exploration! Extreme fires and floods are the only enemies, but in general, the gig is on unless we call you. The Jenolan Caves are a leisurely two hour drive from Penrith. The entrance is astounding and just a taste of the awe-inspiring surrounds in which you are about to be immersed. This is the perfect day out for adventurers, family and friends with facilities including a scenic BBQ and picnic area, the ideal outdoor setting to recap your adventures and replenish your energy stores or take advantage of the ‘Caves House’ to satisfy your hunger with a hot meal.
