Aerobatics is the ultimate roller coaster ride! You haven't lived until you have flown upside down, spiralled nose down towards the earth, looped the loop, and barrel rolled across the skies.

Upon your arrival at Red Baron HQ, Bankstown, you will climb into a flight-suit and prepare to board. Your pilot will strap you securely into the open-air cockpit of the Pitts Special S2A aerobatic bi-plane and fasten your headphones and flight helmet. There will be plenty of time for your family and friends to take photographs of you as you prepare for your flight. When you are secure, your pilot will prepare the plane for take off. You’ll be able to hear all the calls to air traffic control and speak to your pilot through the intercom.
Once airborne you’ll head west towards the foothills of the Great Dividing Range. Over St Mary’s- in the designated training area- you’ll climb to 3500ft-4000ft. You’ll start with some basic manoeuvres- like loops, barrel rolls, wingovers and hammer head turns- to get the feel of things. Your pilot may also treat you to some inverted flight- flying upside down- and to a hesitation roll- a four-point roll where you pause and fly straight ahead at each quarter turn! Your pilot will explain each manoeuvre as you go through it.
Once you’re comfortable with the basics you’ll move onto some combination manoeuvres; things like a Roll Off The Top- a half loop followed by a half roll- and a Split S, the reverse of the Roll off the Top- a half roll followed by a half loop. This may be followed by Cuban Eights and reverse Cuban Eights, which are three-dimensional figure eights. You’ll experience G forces of anywhere between +6G and -3G, alternatively being pushed into your seat or pulled hard against your harness.
After a couple of spins to shake things out your pilot will put all these elements together into an adrenaline inducing sequence of the type used in competition; and while aerobatic manoeuvres are all fun and games today don’t forget they developed out of the serious business of WWI, where fighter pilots like Baron Von Richthofen and other flying aces performed these complicated aerial moves to avoid being shot down in deadly dog fights.
After you’ve had your fill of neck numbing, adrenaline flooding aerial ballet you’ll head back to Bankstown. Landing back at Red Baron HQ you’ll be hard pressed to stop smiling for the rest of the day and we hope it is an experience you will remember for the rest of your life.
As long as the cloud isn’t too low and it’s not raining you will be able to fly.
When can I fly?
Weekends are most popular but we run any day of the week at your request.
Times are as follows: 8am, 9.30am, 11.00am, 12.30pm, 2.00pm, 3.30pm.
Passengers are not permitted to carry anything on the flight as loose objects may be dropped into the aircraft and jam a flight control. If you want to bring a camera it must have a camera strap. Compact cameras are preferred. A DVD of your flight is available upon request for an additional $129.00. If you would like this please make a note under additional information on your booking form.
I would highly recommend this flight to every one. Joel (pilot) was constantly checking how I was doing and explaining what was happening. When I asked to do the hammer head for the 4th time, he did it with no hesitation. I cant explain how exhilirating and amazing this experience was but it will be with me for a long time. Thank you blue skies for one of the best experiences I have had.
Amazing some of those tricks are unreal, the snap turn is the best though, super exciting and if you can handle it don?t hold on.
The aerobatics flight was truly an amazing experience! The thrill you get from a rollercoaster ride multiplied by a thousand! There is nothing quite like seeing the world while your hanging upside down in the open-cock pit! I've never felt such an adrenalin rush!! My pilot was great - kept me informed throughout the whole experience which was really beneficial. Would definately recommend this to others!
That was a truly brilliant day. Perfect weather, great pilot, awesome experience!! T Dames This was a great birthday treat - one to talk about for a long time to come. Joel and the team could not have been better and the aircraft was just lovely. Immaculate inside and out which gives great confidence in the whole operation.
Blue skies Nic From the moment I walked through the Red Baron doors, I was welcomed and made to feel comfortable. Their organisation was flawless as well as their professionalism and courtesy. That aside, the flying was incredible. Had the time of my life. Joel is an awesome pilot and made the whole experience something I will never forget. Unreal - go flying with these guys. Lot and lots and lost of fun!!!
I'm still excited when I think about Sunday morning. I don't think I ever wanted to come back to terra firma - I could have stayed with those clouds for much, much longer. I love the sky! I love aerobatics! And finally I’ve flown in a Pitts Special. My flight in the Pitts Special with you was nothing short of exhilarating. From the moment we took off I was smiling with the broadest grin. Then when we started the aerobatics: inverted flight, loops, barrel rolls, spins, tail slides (one of my favourites!), hammerheads and other manoeuvres that I cannot even remember the names of - I was just having a ball. I couldn’t stop laughing, clapping and was being totally enthralled. But the best was yet to come!! Those powder puff clouds that had started to form around the flight training area. It WAS like our own private Red Bull Air Race when you started to race around these and perform aerobatics around them. When I think about it now I get goose bumps - it was such a beautiful visual sensation and the cloud changes your whole perception of relativity and speed. This is one of the memorable experiences I have ever had (and I've had some adventures!!) and I would say the best aerobatic experience ever thanks to those clouds and to the pilot who showed me just how much fun they are. Thanks!
