About the boat:
'Southern Swan' is a three masted barquentine built in Denmark in 1922 from Danish oak frames.
Southern Swan regularly crossed the North Sea as a grain carrier between Denmark and Greenland for the Tuborg Beer Company until 1969. With ice being a constant hazard in these far northern waters, the ship's bow was strengthened during the initial construction to cope with any light ice work. She was purchased in 1969 as a private vessel and extensively refitted to make extensive ocean voyages, including service as a sail training vessel with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets.
She participated in the 1982 Tall Ships Race from Philadelphia to Portugal. In 1986 after appearing at the World Expo in Vancouver, Southern Swan sailed to England to join the Australian Bicentennial First Fleet Re-Enactment for the historic voyage to Sydney. “Southern Swan’s original name was ‘Mathilde’, then ‘Pacific’ , then ‘H C Andersen’ , then 'Svanen’ , and finally ‘Southern Swan’ .

The Tall Ship crew were great. Especially enjoyable was the informal briefing we received throughout the experience. That went beyond a briefing and became an enjoyable conversation. The young man who did the briefing was very skilled at it; relaxed and informal; and a natural teller of stories. The young crew were hard working, competent and cheerful. The captain was a colourful character with a good sense of humour.
Had a wonderful time. Host was very knowledgeable
Tall ship cruise was extremely enjoyable. Great crew and a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours on Sydney harbour.
It was a memorable post birthday and Fathers Day day. Staff were friendly and talkative when approached. The food was tasty, with a glass or two of wine or beer available for sale at the Bar. On the day, the weather was exceptional, with light winds and blue skies. We couldn't have asked for more.
Craig was great! He made it so interesting and related to everyone on the ship.
It was a truly magical afternoon. The Host and staff were terrific. Would thoroughly recommend trip. My 87 year old parents loved this surprise adventure. Thanks.
Great time on the harbour. On time and friendly crew, good food and not too crowded.
