Visit one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world and go behind the scenes to meet all the local makers and farmers in this full day eco tour of Porongurup National Park. Leaving from Albany, you’ll hop on board a comfortable bus and set off for a full day of getting to know the natural, cultural and historical gems of this region.
Here are the highlights of your tour: step back in time with a visit to the oldest farm in the Porongurup district, Woodburn Homestead, where you’ll meet the man who is running the still-working farm and is the last highly skilled Saddle Maker in the region. You’ll also visit the art studio of multi award winning artist, blacksmith and woodworker Dave Taylor, which looks over the stunning Porongurup Range.
Stop in at Castle Rock Estate - a vineyard on the eastern slopes of the mountain where you’ll meet owner Rob Diletti, who is renowned as one of Australia’s finest winemakers. Enjoy a short vineyard tour, wine tasting and a ploughman’s lunch of local produce that you’ll eat with mountain views surrounding you.
You’ll also visit Porongurup Pure - a single origin sheep and jersey cow dairy where you’ll see the daily operations, meet the animals and sample a range of artisan cheeses. Then head to Red Dirt Seeds to get insights into the environmental rehabilitation requirements of the mining sector.
Next stop is Maleeya's Thai Cafe and Bamboo Nursery to explore the 135 acre organic farm with pet highland cows, an incredible bamboo garden and eucalyptus arboretum. And finally, you’ll finish off with a stop at the family owned and run Thistledown Farm to meet the farmers and understand the important environmental role they play for the region.
Your day exploring the Porongurup Range will be an adventure that really makes you appreciate the authentic local culture and spectacular natural landscape.
