An animal encounter bucket list can be a tough one to narrow down; we’ve compiled a list of the encounters best suited for your type:
Animal lovers: For those looking to get up close and personal with some of the sweetest animals around, you can’t miss the koala cuddle and photo op at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Or, explore one of the country’s most iconic zoos with tickets to Australia Zoo! With the chance to take in the sights with the family and come home with an incredible memento, what more could you want?
If you’re a nature enthusiast looking for more of an authentic experience, dive into the beautiful ocean off the Gold Coast for a snorkelling tour with turtles at Cook Island. Not only will you get to experience these magnificent sea creatures in their natural habitat, but you’ll also be able to explore the abundant marine ecosystem of Cook Island and have a truly unforgettable day!
Adrenaline-Junkies: For those looking to get their blood pressure up, Adrenaline offers some truly incredible encounters with the toothier members of Australian wildlife. Dive into unfamiliar waters with the Cage of Death experience in Darwin. You’ll come face-to-face with a living dinosaur as saltwater crocodiles swim around you and show you what they’re made of! Talk about an experience you won’t soon forget; these incredible apex predators are a must-see for anybody with the inclination. Plus, once you’ve survived the Cage of Death, you can spend some time bringing your heart rate down while exploring the rest of the park from a safe distance!
If crocs aren’t exactly your speed, why not try sharks on for size? Dive into the shark tank and become one with these fearsome fish. You’ll have the opportunity to come face-to-face with Grey Nurse sharks, Wobbegong and White Tip Reef Sharks, to name a few! The perfect day out if you’re dreaming of a thrill!
Family Fun: There are a huge number of great animal encounters for the family with Adrenaline! Whether you want an up-close encounter with some of the smallest members of the marsupial family with the Joey Encounter, or you’re looking for a day out on the water watching whales! Maybe you’re looking to spend the day wandering around a wildlife sanctuary, interacting with and getting to know all the incredible Australian wildlife around you! Meet and greet with the cuddly koala and bouncy kangaroo, and take flight with the beautiful bird life as the keepers talk about their amazing animals!
Sydney: If you're in Sydney, you'll want to get a pass to Wild Life and Sea Life Sydney to get up close and personal with Aussie wildlife. While you're at Sea Life, you can even swim in a tank with their friendly sharks! After that, you can continue along the harbour and head out on a whale-watching adventure to see humpback whales in their natural habitat.
Melbourne: Head down to the Mornington Peninsula and spend the day spotting dolphins and seals, and if you're feeling adventurous you can even swim with dolphins and seals too. You can also go to Phillip Island to snorkel with spectacular fish, and in the evening watch the penguins come in.
Northern Territory: The NT is a bucket list location, with some equally bucket list-worthy animal experiences. See the iconic sights of Uluru on camelback with our Camel tours, or if you're heading to Darwin you can feed the crocodiles or hop in the crocodile cage of death and swim with them!
Western Australia: If you're heading to the west, there are a lot of awesome experiences you can go on and see animals along the way. Starting down south in Lucky Bay you can enjoy the beach with kangaroos hopping around, then heading off the coast of Perth to Rottnest Island you can take a bike tour and spot the strange but wonderful quokkas along the way, don't forget your quokka-selfie! Our favourite animal encounter in WA though has to be swimming with the incredible marine life of Ningaloo Reef and Exmouth. You can swim with turtles, whale sharks, and even humpback whales!
