No horror movie, true crime doco or murder mystery podcast can compare to the immersive experience of a ghost tour. So embrace your fear with a walking tour through the creepiest place in Brisbane - the South Brisbane Cemetery.
You’ll meet at the gates of the cemetery before embarking on a two hour stroll through the burial ground. South Brisbane Cemetery (also known as Dutton Park Cemetery) is a heritage listed 27 acres of land full of grave sites. It’s the second-largest cemetery in Queensland and one of the largest in all of Australia, with nearly 100,000 souls buried here. So basically, you’ll be wandering through a seemingly endless expanse of thousands of gravestones, memorials and unmarked burials in the dark of night. Hope you like to be creeped out!
As you explore the cemetery, your guide will share local ghost stories about former grave diggers, ghostly hauntings, spectres of criminals, the presence of those executed at Boggo Road Gaol, and plenty more. The cemetery has been worn by decades of floods and vandalism, so many gravestones are actually missing and the whole place feels like a horror set.
Walking around the old trees and endless gravesites in the dark is definitely not for the weak hearted, but if you’re up for something sinister, this is for you.
