This small town is a great place to take an adventurous break. As well as being renowned for whale sharks and humpback whales, Exmouth visitors can explore the nearby Cape Range National Park (famous for its red, rocky gorges) and the beaches and rock pools of Jurabi Coastal Reserve, a home for nesting turtles.  

Whale shark swim tour

Ready for one of the experiences of a lifetime? If you’ve always wanted to swim with whale sharks, Exmouth’s nearby Ningaloo Reef is the place to make it happen. Whale shark season runs from mid-March to the end of August, so grab a snorkel and take the plunge.  

There are even qualified marine biologists on hand to lead the way and help you learn more about the incredible variety of marine life on the reef. Look out for dolphins, tortoises, dugongs, manta rays and humpback whales.  

Humpback whale tours

From August to late October you can swim with humpback whales in the wild at Ningaloo Reef. Thousands of whales pass through these waters as they migrate each year and the chance to see them up close is sure to be one of the most memorable adventures of a lifetime. This is so much more than your typical whale watching tour and a unique Aussie experience.  

Where is Exmouth?

Exmouth is on the eastern coast of the North West Cape, Western Australia. It’s located next to the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area and the famous Ningaloo Reef. It’s roughly halfway between Perth and Broome.

Exmouth is approximately 1270 kilometres (789 miles) from Perth. Driving time is around 12 hours.
